WELCOME TO THE MEADOW

the Land

The area now known as Golden, British Columbia sits on the traditional, unceded territory of the Ktunaxa Nation and the Secwépemc (Shuswap) Nation, and is also the chosen home of the Métis Nation Columbia River Society.

The Ktunaxa have lived in and stewarded these lands for thousands of years, with deep cultural and spiritual ties to the mountains, rivers, and valleys of the Columbia River watershed. Their creation stories, language, and stewardship practices are rooted in long-standing relationships with the land and its life cycles - from hunting and fishing to gathering medicines and ceremonial traditions. The Ktunaxa language is unique in the world, and community efforts continue to revitalize it so that future generations can carry forward their cultural inheritance.

The Secwépemc (Shuswap) people also have ancient ties to the region, moving seasonally across Secwepemculecw (their territory) for hunting, gathering, fishing, and cultural exchange long before European contact. Their oral histories and laws were passed down through generations, guiding how they cared for the land, water, and all beings connected to it.

In addition to these two Nations, the Métis Nation Columbia River Society represents Métis people who have made this area their home for generations. The Métis played a significant role in regional trade, settlement, and cultural life since the 1800s; today the Society works to sustain Métis culture, teach traditional practices, and share history with the broader community.

These Indigenous cultures have cared for the Golden area since time immemorial - long before the arrival of settlers - and continue to steward and strengthen their connections to the land, waterways, and cultural traditions today.

The Land and its Stewards

A robust sanctuary, a home bursting with life, a land enriched by true care and adorned by the arts both seen and unseen.

This private land is stewarded by a multi generational family, these lands have sprung forward life year after year, season after season, continually sinking roots further into the soils and reaching new heights, as life does when it’s tended well.

Residing here for over 50-years, you can imagine the stories stomped into these grounds. From raising their own children here, to now their grandchildren, neighbouring (one of) their sons and his family, the multigenerational magic is truly felt.

Raising not only children and grandchildren, but animals too! such as chickens, goats and more! the rotation has changed over the years but one things always remains; the genuine care for life and continual exploration of curiosity and adventure.

With hard-work and dedication, much of what you’ll see on these lands has been crafted by the hands of those whom live here, being tended season after season.

May this family and all that they have to share - from the inside out - be felt by you, too, as you embrace the lands and experience the holding that is unmistakable as soon as you enter through the gates.
